The newest park in the Colorado Parks and Wildlife state park system is Staunton State Park, opened in May of 2013. 40 miles southwest of Denver just north of the US Hwy 285 corridor near Conifer, CO, the 3,800-acre Staunton State Park boasts a large trail system ranging in elevation from 8,000ft to 10,000ft. This area was named for Frances H. Staunton, who donated the first 1,700-acre parcel of land to Colorado in 1986. Many of the trails in the area are multi-use, allowing mountain biking and horseback riding use in addition to hiking. This is a fee area.
