On the northeastern plains of Colorado north of Sterling, CO is North Sterling State Park centered on the North Sterling Reservoir and surrounded by prairie grasslands on all sides with bluffs to the north and ranchlands to the east. Mostly drawing visitors for the water-based recreation opportunities such as boating, water skiing and fishing, this area has a few short hiking trails through the area campgrounds and along the south shore. The on-site Elks Campground is open year-round. This is a fee area.
