Central San Juan Mountains Area Hiking

North of the Weminuche Wilderness and south of the Redcloud/Sunshine and Handies Peak 14er areas is an extensive swath of the San Juan Mountains along the Continental Divide containing numerous high 13er peaks and plenty of challenging hikes for visitors. Spanning parts of the Rio Grande National Forest to the south and Gunnison National Park to the north, this isolated stretch of mountains contains a long stretch of the Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail (which are the same trail in this part of the state).
