North of Button Rock Reservoir and west of US Hwy 36 is a large portion of the Roosevelt National Forest centered around Button Rock Mountain (8,450ft elevation). This area contains an extensive trail system from the east at Pinewood Springs across the mountain to the Coulson Gulch Trailhead off Big Elk Road to the west.
