The town of Breckenridge in central Colorado is a hiking mecca in the White River National Forest, despite being mostly known for its world-class skiing. With many day hikes along the mined-out Swan River and French Creek valleys, easy access to above treeline alpine terrain at 13er Mount Baldy (13,684ft) and even longer climbing and backpacking journeys into the Tenmile Range to the west of town, hikers and mountain bikers have a wealth of options for outdoor recreation in Breckenridge and the surrounding areas. There is an even a local 14er (Quandary Peak, 14,265ft elevation), just south of town but before Hoosier Pass, for those looking to begin their 14er journey - almost a rite of passage for Coloradans today.
