Some of the more prominent geographic landmarks in the Golden, CO are North and South Table Mountain, formed by ancient plugs of lava that remained after softer surrounding material eroded away. Managed by Jefferson County Open Space, South Table Mountain is a recreation area spanning just over 1,500 acres with 13+ miles of trails climbing up onto and crisscrossing the area. Located on the eastern edge of town, this popular area draws hikers and mountain bikers for a day of recreation, accessed by trailheads on the south side of the mountain.
