On the southern edge of Salida, CO the Methodist Mountain trail system marks the northern tip of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. On the northern flank of Methodist Mountain in this range is a local Salida recreation area known as Methodist Mountain trail system. Mostly on Bureau of Land Management land, this non-motorized system connects up to the Rainbow Trail further south in the San Isabel National Forest via a couple of different trails. Most of the trails in this system are below 8,000ft elevation and the hiking/riding consists of flowing trails through Pinon tree vegetation. This trail is popular with mountain bikers, but hikers and equestrians are also welcome.
