Colorado

The southern portion of Colorado's Sangre de Cristo Mountains can be accessed in a pocket of the San Isabel National Forest southwest of La Veta, CO and near Cucharas, CO. This area of the Sangres is called the Culebra Range, and the only legal public access is on the east side of the range - and only the northern portion of that - as the rest of the range is private property. The trails here are a mix of motorized and non-motorized trails on the flank of the Culebra Range as well as trail from the town of Cucharas that follows one of the many volcanic dikes in the region.
