Colorado

Forming the western edge of the San Luis Valley are the eastern-most San Juan Mountains south of Del Norte, CO and west of Monte Vista, CO. These national forest trails of this section of the Rio Grande National Forest leading up high into the mountains are mostly a series of motorized trails with a few non-motorized trails mixed in. For on-foot adventures, many continue further southwest to the South San Juan Wilderness, but this area - more easily accessible from trailheads on the edge of the San Luis Valley and on the east side of Wolf Creek Pass - has plenty of high alpine hiking/riding with many peaks rising above 12,000ft elevation.
