Colorado

The cluster of fourteener peaks in the central Mosquito Range south of Breckenridge, CO and northwest of Fairplay, CO is commonly referred to as the Decalibron hiking area - a shortening of the names of the four 14ers which comprise the area: Mount Democrat, Mount Cameron, Mount Lincoln and Mount Bross. Often these peaks are climbed in a single, strenuous day in a loop (with small branches off to reach Mount Democrat and Mount Lincoln), but sometimes climbed separately, especially amongst 14er beginners looking to take advantage of the high starting elevation of the Kite Lake Trailhead at just over 12,000ft. This area is within the Pike National Forest, but much of this area contains private property in the form of many mining claims - including the summit of Mount Bross itself. Accessible from just south of the Hoosier Pass and north of Alma, CO this area also contains day hikes to Lake Emma (from the Kite Lake Trailhead) and 4x4 trails to Wheeler Lake and around the 14ers as well. Please respect all private property signs and blockades in this area to keep access open into the future.
